method: translating yoga material to Danish

Since I want to pick material from several books in different languages I have come up with this workflow:

  1. Scan text material from books. any scanner will do and I have an old HP Photosmart.
  2. Use a free OCR, Optical Character Recognition software to get this scanning into a textfile. I use an online solution and I did a quick test today and it came out all right.
  3. Once the text is in digital format I can use google translate or the FoxLingo plugin ( Mozilla Firefox browser) to get the text into Danish.
  4. the last step is optional and that is to use a text-to-speech service to get the text into audio.

In the next few days I will use this service to get the basic Sivananda class into Danish.

10 Great Reasons to Use a Camcorder in Yoga

  1. Professional athletes have done this for years to improve performance.
  2. Make it look graceful. You will see all these small movements you do which takes away from the grace. Trust me it will look better and feel better when you do not wiggle your toes in the lotus pose
  3. You can notice any imbalance in your body and correct it. As long as it is not in the skeleton and than it was good you saw it anyway so you can talk with a doctor
  4. Having  a personal trainer costs a lot of money and camcorders are constantly dropping in price and even a webcam will give you some feedback.
  5. You have the possibility to upload to sites like Youtube and get comments from all over the world.
  6. You can very easily go back and see your own progress over time.
  7. It is a chance to accept yourself on how you look and the way your body is.
  8. A cheap way to get an out of body experience
  9. Share your experience with your friends and family
  10. It is fun :)

video diary: backbend training

This practice will make my wrists stronger and more flexible so they do not get a shock when I come down backwards in the full backbend.

feel a lot of resistance for the wheel pose ?

another video I came across which really inspired me !

right now I am really focusing on getting over my fear for backbends.

problem with transition from a standing position to the wheel pose ?

I felt a lot of fear for backbends. I was a bit surprised when I came across this video. It is a quite young girl who explains this in detail and she gives a lot of alternative ways on practising this !

I have started to practice this regularly and I will get back with some more feedback.

Practice: Being Grateful

To be grateful is something that almost all of the great self help coaches, Priests and Dalai Lama are telling us to be. Yet it is so hard and so easy to forget. I will try to practise this today and it will be a total mix of everything. I am grateful for Dalai Lama who is writing in an easy way how we can live a more peaceful life. I am thankful that I right now have the possibility to live the life I really want to live. I really appreciate that I have all the clothes I need and that I have a computer to type on. I am thankful for all the workers who put an effort into getting me this wonderful piece of equipment. I really appreciate all the wonderful teaching I have recieved from my parents, all the teacher I had at elementary school, Sven my kick boxing coach, My Judo teacher who introduced me to meditation when I was 11 years old,  Satyananda who is writing all this wonderful books, Janakananda and his very practical approach to yoga, Omananda , the teachers at Chalmers Technical University, Dalai Lama, Timothy Ferris and his book who really taught me that it is possible to live life exactly as you want and still be of service to other people, Annete Simmons and her really nice book on how to write interesting stories, Jeff Howe and his very inspiring book on how we can collaborate on an even bigger scale now due to Internet , Andreas Öberg who really inspired me to think outside of  my limiting beliefs, Per Ekengren who really opened my eyes on how to save money and use resources even more efficiently at the same time, Neil Natura who really taught me to believe in myself, Neil Strauss and his great teaching on how you can evolve in how you handle social situations, all the people I have met who inspired me in a situation where I did not expect to be inspired, Susanna and Jens and their very hands on approach to helping you to do the postures right in Ashtanga Yoga, All the wonderful yoga teachers, Anna, Turiya, Omananda, Sita, Anananda,  Agnidara, Lisbet etc.

how to live a healthy intellectual life ?

In short my advice would be like this:

food:

  • eat 4-6 times a day to keep from getting to low in blood sugar.
  • meals containing mostly vegetables such as carrots,  spinach, celery, radishes, tomatoes, peas, lentils, beans. A way to define vegetables would be to say it is a less sugary fruit.
  • a rule would be 2 vegetables for each fruit such as banana and apple.
  • eat oily fish, Salmon, Trout, Mackerel and Herring  or vegetable oils, rapeseed, flax and hempseed oil at least 3 times a week. a mix between oil from fish and plants is best.
  • use sunflower and corn oil in cooking
  • mix the source of protein between, whey protein, egg, low fat yogurt, soy protein, lentils, tuna, chicken etc.
  • drink juice, grapes (if you can get juice containing pulp, skins, stems and seeds that is the best also called a “must” ), tropical and cranberry together with your protein shake . remember to eat some vegetables on the side.

exercise

  • at least 30 minutes of moderate to intense exercise involving large muscle groups 3 times a week. Cycling, swimming, running are good examples.
  • a quarter of an hour every day with exercises like sit-ups, push-ups etc.
  • yoga with deep breathing. allowing the breath to become really deep and slow.
  • meditation for at least 20 minutes a day
  • games such a brain age
  • teach somebody else about something. In my case it is computer science and yoga
  • write a blog or if you prefer paper write a traditional diary.
  • learn a new language
  • engage all your senses when you write or teach.

I will keep on updating this list and below you can see the information on each point in full.

So far this is a cut and paste from different sources like wired menshealth and wikipedia
